Challenge update

Another month has passed and with it more deadlines that have been missed. I still love my challenges though! :-)

The Non-Fiction Five Challenge hosted by Trish ended at the end of September and I'm still not done. But as Trish says, a pat on the back for reading at least some non-fiction is well-deserved so that's what I'm giving myself. I did manage 3/5 books and am halfway through my fourth. Here's what I finished:

The Stork Club by Imogen Edwards-Jones
We Thought you would be Prettier by Laurie Notaro
The Best Friends' Guide to Pregnancy by Vicki Iovine

And I'm still reading Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air, which is a very interesting book about climbing Mount Everst. This isn't the kind of book that I would normally pick up so I'm definitely outside my comfort zone. And enjoying it! :-)

The Celebrate the Author challenge hasn't finished, but since I missed a September author it's done for me. I read loads of great books for this since the beginning of the year but didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would in general - the monthly time pressure was a bit much for me...

And the rest of my challenges are still ongoing, so we'll see what will be cut next! :-)

I have really enjoyed the challenge books that I would never have picked up otherwise. Because I do not plan to do any challenges next year, I want to make sure I remember to browse areas I wouldn't have normally so I can hopefully continue making odd discoveries. :-)

I think you did a great job, even if you didn't technically finish!

Joanna, certainly give yourself a big pat on the back. Three non-fiction book is fantastic. And yay for enjoying a book outside of your comfort zone! For me that's what it's all about.

Lezlie - wow, a year without challenges, what self-control! ;-)

Trish - indeed, venturing out of my comfort zone on occasion is one of the reasons why I love challenges so much!

I'm sure the Celebrate the Author challenge said that you could make up an author that you missed after the fact, you just couldn't read ahead of their month. Unless you are looking to leave that challenge, I'm sure you can keep with it.

There is another book written about that Everest experience that contradicts some of Krakauer's story. They go together really well. The author was Russian?

raidergirl - oh, I'll have to check on that then, thanks for the tip!
