One of my plans for the New Year is to get my own website. I understand that the easiest way to do this is to switch from Blogger to Wordpress, which I hear is better anyway. But I know nothing about what to do - including anything about this web hosting thing. Is it ok to just buy a package from one of the hosting companies that Wordpress recommends? Will everything else be simple?
Advice from anyone who has done this would be appreciated!

I switched from WordPress.com to WordPress.org (my own site) earlier this year, and it was pretty easy. I can't help you with the Blogger end, but if you need help with the WordPress end, send me an email and I'll see what I can do. Good luck with the move!
I just through Blogger when I got my own site and it was extremely easy and trouble free. They do everything for you. I have no complaints.
Thanks Erin, that's very kind of you!
Darlene - I have my mind set on wordpress now, but it's good to know that I can do the same from Blogger, in case something doesn't work...
If all you want is your own website (you mean url?) you can do that through blogger. I pay $10 USD a year for my own dot com. Nothing else has changed for me other than that so I didn't have to learn a new platform.
But, if you don't like Blogger--that's a separate issue. Kind of makes me sad to see some of my blogging friends go in that direction as I'm not a big fan of Wordpress.
